FOUNDING STORY
FOUNDER(S) & LEADERSHIP
Gregg Renfrew, Founder and CEO
In 2011 Gregg Renfrew was shocked to learn that the US only bans 30 ingredients from skincare products (compared to the EU which bans 1,400). “The American consumer is busy enough that they are looking for brands to outsource their trust to,” she says. She launched Beautycounter in 2013 as an online DTC retailer, later partnering with major brands like J. Crew and Target. Drawing from previous merchandising experience with executives like Martha Stewart and Susie Hilfiger, she created a line of clean, high-quality products that superseded lax FDA regulations with a simple less-is-more philosophy. Beautycounter (goes the extra mile) by fighting to change the laws that control what can be used in products and increase safer access to beauty products, ultimately transforming the industry as a whole.
